Preparation H PE Gel (Phenylephrine Hamamelis virginiana (witch hazel) is a combination of agents used to relieve the local itching and discomfort associated with hemorrhoids (swollen veins in the lower rectum). It is also used to temporarily shrink the hemorrhoidal tissue and help protect the irritated areas. It may also have other uses.

Preparation H PE Gel (Phenylephrine Hamamelis virginiana (witch hazel) is typically applied externally to the affected area up to 4 times daily, especially at night, in the morning or after each bowel movement. However, your pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. WARNING: For external use only. Do not exceed the recommended daily dosage, unless directed by a doctor. Refer back to your doctor if bleeding occurs, or if the condition worsens or doesn't improve within 7 days. In addition to its desired action, Preparation H PE Gel (Phenylephrine Hamamelis virginiana (witch hazel) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause discomfort, irritation, or pain of the anus or rectum. It may cause bleeding. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to phenylephrine, witch hazel, or any component of the formulation, oral use. Taking Preparation H PE Gel (Phenylephrine Hamamelis virginiana (witch hazel) during pregnancy may be harmful to the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method.
