Description

Feramax 150 (Polysaccharide Iron Complex) is an iron supplement. It is typically used to treat iron-deficiency anemia (a condition in which blood lacks adequate healthy red blood cells). It may also have other uses.

Additional information

Feramax 150 (Polysaccharide Iron Complex) is typically taken as 1 capsule once a day. However, your pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. This product is more effective when taken on an empty stomach. However if you experience stomach problems, you may take it with food. It is best to take it at the same time each day. Do not lie down for at least 10 minutes after taking your dose. However, do not take it with cereals, dietary fiber, tea, coffee, eggs, or milk. Avoid taking antacids, dairy products, tea, or coffee within 2 hours before or after Feramax 150 (Polysaccharide Iron Complex) because they will decrease its effectiveness. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist.

WARNING: This drug prevents many other drugs from getting into the body. If you take other drugs, check with your doctor or pharmacist to see if you need to take them at some other time than this drug. The administration of iron for more than 6 months should be avoided except in patients with continuous bleeding or menorrhagia (a heavy or prolonged menstrual bleeding).

In addition to its desired action, Feramax 150 (Polysaccharide Iron Complex) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause constipation, diarrhea, stomach cramps, or upset stomach.
It may cause your stools to turn black.

Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to iron salts or any component of the formulation, hemochromatosis (a disorder in which extra iron builds up in the body to harmful levels), hemolytic anemia (a disorder in which red blood cells are destroyed faster than they can be made).

Taking Feramax 150 (Polysaccharide Iron Complex) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. There is no available data regarding the harm of Feramax 150 (Polysaccharide Iron Complex) for the fetus, therefore it is not recommended to use it. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.Feramax 150 (Polysaccharide Iron Complex)
