Description
Posanol (Posaconazole) is an antifungal agent. It is typically used to prevent certain serious fungal infections for people 13 years of age and older whose immune systems may be weakened by other medications or diseases. It may also have other uses.

Posanol (Posaconazole)'s dosage depends on the condition being treated. Your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. Shake the bottle well before each use. Administer with provided measured dosing spoon during or within 20 minutes following a full meal, patients who are unable to eat a full meal may take each dose with an oral liquid nutritional supplement or acidic carbonated beverage (e.g., ginger ale). WARNING: This medication can increase the risk of abnormal heart rhythms. Use with caution in patients with an increased risk of arrhythmia (a problem with the rate or rhythm of the heartbeat). This medication can also cause liver problems. Use with caution in patients with severe hepatic impairment. In addition to its desired action, Posanol (Posaconazole) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, constipation. It may cause hypokalemia (low levels of potassium), hypomagnesemia (low levels of magnesium), hyperglycemia (high levels of sugar). It may cause high blood pressure, headache, fatigue, sleep disorders. Contraindications: Coadministration with sirolimus, ergotamine, dihydroergotamine, atorvastatin, lovastatin, simvastatin, pimozide, quinidine, hypersensitivity to posaconazole, other azole antifungal agents (similar agents), or any component of the formulation, known or suspected hereditary fructose (sugar) intolerance (a disorder in which a person lacks the protein needed to break down fructose). Taking Posanol (Posaconazole) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Posanol (Posaconazole) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
