Posanol (Posaconazole)

Posanol (Posaconazole) is typically used twice on the first day, then once daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. Tablets must be swallowed whole, do not divide, crush, dissolve, or chew the tablets. Take with food when possible but may be taken with or without food.
WARNING: This medication can increase the risk of abnormal heart rhythms. Use caution in patients with an increased risk of arrhythmia (a problem with the rate or rhythm of the heartbeat). This medication can also cause liver problems. Use with caution in patients with severe hepatic impairment.
In addition to its desired action, Posanol (Posaconazole) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, constipation.
It may cause hypokalemia (low levels of potassium), hypomagnesemia (low levels of magnesium), hyperglycemia (high levels of sugar).
It may cause high blood pressure, headache, fatigue, sleep disorders.
Contraindications: Coadministration with sirolimus, ergotamine, dihydroergotamine, atorvastatin, lovastatin, simvastatin, pimozide, quinidine, hypersensitivity to posaconazole, other azole antifungal agents (similar agents), or any component of the formulation, known or suspected hereditary fructose (sugar) intolerance (a disorder in which a person lacks the protein needed to break down fructose). Taking Posanol (Posaconazole) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.
