Additional information
Potassium Acetate (Potassium)'s dosage depends on the condition being treated. Your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a schedule that is more appropriate for you. It will be given to you by a doctor in a hospital setting. It is given by intravenous (into the vein) infusion. WARNING: This medication is an irritant, it may cause extravasation (leakage of the drug into the surrounding tissue causing tissue damage). Close monitoring of potassium concentrations in the blood is needed to avoid hyperkalemia (high blood potassium), severe hyperkalemia may lead to muscle weakness/paralysis and cardiac conduction abnormalities. Use with caution in patients with heart disease or kidney impairment. In addition to its desired action, Potassium Acetate (Potassium) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause potassium intoxication. Symptoms may include paralysis, mental confusion, weakness and heaviness of the legs, hypotension (low blood pressure), cardiac abnormalities. It may cause local tissue necrosis (death of the surrounding tissue). Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to potassium acetate or any component of the formulation. Do not use in case of severe kidney impairment or adrenal insufficiency (when the adrenal glands found on top of both kidneys don't make enough of the hormone cortisol), or hyperkalemia. Taking Potassium Acetate (Potassium) during pregnancy may be harmful to the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. If you're planning a pregnancy, become pregnant, or are breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Potassium Acetate (Potassium) requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.Potassium Acetate (Potassium)
