Description
Primidone (Primidone) is an anticonvulsant agent. It is typically used for the management of many types of seizure disorders (abnormal brain activity). It may also have other uses.

Primidone (Primidone) is typically used three to four times per day. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. Administer without regard to food, take Primidone (Primidone) with food to decrease stomach upset. WARNING: Patients must be cautioned about performing tasks that require mental alertness (e.g., operating machinery, driving). Use with caution in patients with depression or suicidal tendencies, liver impairment, renal (kidney) impairment, respiratory disease. Use with caution in patients with a history of drug abuse, in elderly patients due to sedating side effects. Do not administer to patients in acute pain. Anticonvulsants should not be discontinued abruptly because of the possibility of increasing seizure frequency, therapy should be withdrawn gradually to minimize the potential of increased seizure frequency (unless otherwise medically indicated). In addition to its desired action, Primidone (Primidone) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause dizziness, drowsiness, excitation, tiredness, headache, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting It may cause emotional disturbance, fatigue, impotence, eye problems Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to phenobarbital, porphyria (excessive production of porphyrins (chemicals that help make a type of protein in your blood cells)). Taking Primidone (Primidone) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. There is no available data regarding the harm of Primidone (Primidone) for the fetus, therefore it is not recommended to use it. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Primidone (Primidone) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
