Description

Prochlorperazine (Prochlorperazine) is an antipsychotic and antiemetic agent. It is typically used for the management of severe nausea and vomiting and the management of manifestations of psychotic disorders such as agitation, confusion, delusion, tension and anxiety. It may also have other uses.

Additional information

Prochlorperazine (Prochlorperazine) is typically used three to four times daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. Take Prochlorperazine (Prochlorperazine) with or without food.

WARNING: Elderly patients with dementia-related psychosis (a severe mental disorder in which thought and emotions are so impaired that contact is lost with external reality) treated with antipsychotic drugs are at an increased risk of death compared with placebo. Most deaths appeared to be either cardiovascular (e.g., heart failure, sudden death) or infectious (e.g., pneumonia) in nature. Prochlorperazine is not approved for the treatment of dementia-related psychosis.

In addition to its desired action, Prochlorperazine (Prochlorperazine) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause ECG abnormality (cardiac rhythm disorder), hypotension (low blood pressure), peripheral edema (swelling of the lower legs or hands)
It may cause ejaculatory disorders, impotence (erectile dysfunction), lactation, priapism (persistent and painful erection of the penis), urinary retention
It may cause amenorrhea (menstruation absence), change in libido, hyperglycemia (high blood sugar), hypoglycemia (low blood glucose), weight gain

Contraindications: Known hypersensitivity to phenothiazines, coma or presence of large amounts of certain substances (e.g., alcohol, opioids, barbiturates), postoperative (after surgery) management of nausea/vomiting following pediatric surgery, use in infants and children <2 years or <9 kg, pediatric conditions for which dosage has not been established

Taking Prochlorperazine (Prochlorperazine) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.
