Description
Mestinon (Pyridostigmine) is acetylcholinesterase agent. It is typically used for the treatment of myasthenia gravis (a chronic autoimmune disorder in which antibodies destroy the communication between nerves and muscle). It may also have other uses.

Mestinon (Pyridostigmine)'s dosage depends on the condition, it is usually given five to six times daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. Administer with or without food. WARNING: symptoms of excess cholinergic activity may occur (e.g., salivation, sweating, urinary incontinence). Use with caution in patients with low heart rate and irregular heartbeats, use with caution in patient with eye, lungs and kidney diseases. These events may occur at anytime during therapy and without warning. In addition to its desired action, Mestinon (Pyridostigmine) may cause some side effects, notably: It may diarrhea, stomach pain and muscles pain. It may cause increase sensitivity to sunlight, stop of period and lung problems. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to pyridostigmine, anticholinesterase agents, or any component of the formulation, mechanical intestinal or urinary obstruction or blockage. Taking Mestinon (Pyridostigmine) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Mestinon (Pyridostigmine) requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.Mestinon (Pyridostigmine)
