Description

Nexavar (Sorafenib) is an anticancer agent. It is typically used for the treatment of liver cancer, kidney cancer and thyroid gland cancer. It may also have other uses.

Additional information

Nexavar (Sorafenib)'s dosage depends on the condition, it is usually given twice daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. Administer without food at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal.

WARNING: increased risk of bleeding may occur especially in patients with thyroid gland cancer having certain infections. Sorafenib may cause heart disease and attack. Sorafenib may induce liver inflammation. Sorafenib may cause increase blood pressure. Hand-foot skin reaction and rash are the most common drug-related adverse events and typically appear within the first 6 weeks of sorafenib treatment. These events may occur at anytime during therapy and without warning.

In addition to its desired action, Nexavar (Sorafenib) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may hypertension (high blood pressure), alopecia (hair loss), and skin rash.
It may cause liver insufficiency, anemia (a condition in which you lack enough healthy red blood cells to carry adequate oxygen to your body's tissues) and bleeding.
It may cause a decreased appetite, vomiting, stomach pain and weight loss.
It may cause infections, fatigue, headache, fever and voice disturbances.

Contraindications: Known severe hypersensitivity or severe allergy to sorafenib or any component of the formulation, use in combination with carboplatin and paclitaxel in patients with lung cancer.

Taking Nexavar (Sorafenib) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. There is no available data regarding the harm of Nexavar (Sorafenib) for the fetus, therefore it is not recommended to use it. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.
