Description

Vesanoid (Tretinoin) is a anticancer agent. It is typically is used to treat a type of leukemia (cancer of the white blood cells) known as acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL). It may also have other uses.

Additional information

Vesanoid (Tretinoin) is typically used in two equal divided doses and taken approximately 12 hours apart. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. Administer with a meal, do not crush capsules.
WARNING: Effective birth control should be practiced while using Vesanoid (Tretinoin) as Vesanoid (Tretinoin) may harm the baby if used during pregnancy. For women capable of becoming pregnant, effective birth control must be in place at least one month before starting Vesanoid (Tretinoin). Treatment should not begin until the second or third day of the next normal menstrual period. A negative pregnancy test result must be obtained within the 2 weeks before starting treatment. Birth control should be continued for at least one month after stopping Vesanoid (Tretinoin). This medication may increase the chance of blood clot formation, causing reduction of blood flow to organs or the extremities. If you have a history of clotting you may be at increased risk of experiencing blood clot-related problems such as heart attack, stroke, or clots in the deep veins of your leg. Discuss with your doctor how Vesanoid (Tretinoin) may affect your medical condition.
In addition to its desired action, Vesanoid (Tretinoin) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause headaches, dizziness, fever, weakness, tiredness, dry mouth or nose It may cause dry skin, other skin changes, thinning hair or hair loss, nausea, vomiting It may cause itching, bone pain, white patches or sores inside your mouth or on your lips It may cause increased sweating, earache, rash or itching
Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to tretinoin, parabens, or any component of the formulation, pregnant or could become pregnant (unless you have practiced effective contraception for at least one month prior, during, and one month after discontinuation of therapy), taking any other form of vitamin A. Taking Vesanoid (Tretinoin) during pregnancy is harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Vesanoid (Tretinoin) requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.Vesanoid (Tretinoin)
