Description

Vancomycin Hydrochloride (Vancomycin) is an antibiotic. It is typically used treat certain infections of the gastrointestinal tract. It may also have other uses.

Additional information

Vancomycin Hydrochloride (Vancomycin) is typically taken every 6 to 8 hours for 7 to 10 days. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. It can be taken with or without food. The capsule should not be open and should be taken with plenty of water.
WARNING: Vancomycin can cause hearing loss. People with a history of hearing loss should not take Vancomycin Hydrochloride (Vancomycin) if possible. Reduced kidney function or kidney disease may cause Vancomycin Hydrochloride (Vancomycin) to build up in the body, causing side effects. Use with caution in patients with renal problem. During prolonged or repeated treatment with vancomycin, other bacteria or fungi may be allowed to overgrow. If your condition does not improve or worsens while taking Vancomycin Hydrochloride (Vancomycin), contact your doctor. In addition to its desired action, Vancomycin Hydrochloride (Vancomycin) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause hearing loss, dizziness, ringing in the ears.
It may cause abdominal pain, nausea, taste changes. It may cause peripheral edema (swelling of the lower legs or hands).
It may cause diarrhea, vomiting. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to vancomycin or any component of the formulation.
Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.
