Description
Adacel Vaccine (Tetanus Toxoid Reduced Diphtheria Toxoid Acellular Pertussis Vaccine Adsorbed) typically used to prevent tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (whooping cough) for people 4 years of age and older. Tetanus is a bacterial infection causing painful muscle contractions. Diphtheria is a bacterial infection causing difficulty breathing, heart failure, paralysis, and even death. Pertussis is a highly contagious and potentially serious bacterial respiratory infection in young children.

Adacel Vaccine (Tetanus Toxoid Reduced Diphtheria Toxoid Acellular Pertussis Vaccine Adsorbed) is typically administered as one injection in in the muscle, preferably in the deltoid (shoulder) region. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. WARNING: Like all vaccines, may not fully protect 100% of those who get it. It may not be as effective for people with a weakened immune system. This vaccine should not be given to anyone who has an active infection or an illness associated with fever, unless the doctor decides that the benefits outweigh the risks. Vaccination may be considered only after seizure treatment has been established and the condition is stabilized. In addition to its desired action, this medication may cause some side effects, notably: It may body aches, diarrhea, loss of appetite, nausea, and vomiting. It may cause dizziness, fatigue, headache, irritability, and mild fever. It may cause redness, swelling, tenderness, or pain at place of injection. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to the vaccine or any ingredients of the vaccine. Do not use in case of previous encephalopathy (a condition affecting the brain such as coma, decreased level of consciousness, prolonged seizures) within 7 days of a previous pertussis vaccine. Do not use in case of previous episode of thrombocytopenia (decrease in platelets) or neurological complication following a previous diphtheria and/or tetanus vaccine. Taking this medication during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.
