Description
Afinitor (Everolimus) is an anticancer agent. It is typically used to treat certain types of kidney cancer, breast cancer, or brain cancer. It may also have other uses.

Afinitor (Everolimus) is typically used once daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. Take it with or without food. WARNING: Elevations of serum creatinine (high serum creatinine levels in the blood indicate that the kidneys aren't functioning properly), blood glucose (sugar), and lipids (fats) may occur. Decreases in hemoglobin (hemoglobin in blood carries oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body), neutrophils (a type of white blood cell that protect from infections), and platelets (blood cells that help blood clot) may also occur. Monitor renal function, blood glucose, lipids, and hematologic (blood) parameters prior to treatment and periodically thereafter. In addition to its desired action, Afinitor (Everolimus) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause hypertension (high blood pressure), peripheral edema (swelling), sleep disorders. It may cause abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, rash., fatigue. It may cause infection, fever, back pain, headache, decreased appetite, stomatitis (inflammation inside of the mouth). Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to everolimus, other rapamycin derivatives, or any component of the formulation. Taking Afinitor (Everolimus) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Afinitor (Everolimus) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
