Description
Ampicillin Sodium for injection (Ampicillin) is a penicillin antibiotic. It is typically used to treat bacterial infections of the blood, urinary tract, protective layers of the brain (meninges), and respiratory tract (chest). It may also have other uses.

Ampicillin Sodium for injection (Ampicillin) is typically given every 6 hours. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. It will be given to you by a doctor or nurse in a hospital or clinical setting. It can either be injected into the muscle (intramuscular) or into the veins (intravenous). WARNING: Long-term use of Ampicillin may cause it not to work anymore in the future (resistance), more bacteria and fungi to grow (superinfection), and bacteria that do not die (resistance). Ampicillin only treats bacterial infections, not viral infections such as the common cold. Use with caution in patients with kidney disease, adjusting the dose may be necessary. In addition to its desired action, Ampicillin Sodium for injection (Ampicillin) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause a black and hairy tongue, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. It may cause fever, skin rash, or itchiness. It may cause liver or kidney problems. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to ampicillin, any component of the formulation, or other penicillin. Do not use in case of infections caused by penicillinase (an enzyme)-producing organisms. Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women.
