Description
Apo Sumatriptan (Sumatriptan) is an antimigraine agent. It is typically used for the acute treatment of migraine (severe headache) with or without aura. Aura is the temporary visual or other disturbances that usually strike before other migraine symptoms such as intense head pain, nausea, and sensitivity to light and sound. It may also have other uses.
Additional information
Apo Sumatriptan (Sumatriptan) is typically used once daily. If the headache returns, or if there is partial but not total relief, only one additional dose may be repeated after 2 hours. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. It may be administered with or without food. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. Do not crush, break, or chew. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. WARNING: Acute migraine agents (e.g., triptans, opioids, ergotamine, or a combination of the agents) used for 10 or more days per month may lead to worsening of headaches (medication overuse headache), withdrawal treatment may be necessary in the setting of overuse. In addition to its desired action, Apo Sumatriptan (Sumatriptan) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause chest pain, palpitations (a rapid, strong, or irregular heartbeat), or flushing. It may cause dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, pain, feeling of heaviness, or headache. It may cause nausea, xerostomia (dry mouth), sore throat, stomach pain, diarrhea, or vomiting. It may cause weakness, jaw pain, jaw pressure, jaw tightness, neck pain, neck pressure, or neck tightness. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to Sumatriptan or any component of the formulation. Do not use Apo Sumatriptan (Sumatriptan) if you suffer from ischemic heart disease (where the heart doesn't get enough oxygen), or symptoms of ischemic heart disease. Do not use Sumatriptan if you suffer or have suffered from coronary artery vasospasm (narrowing of the arteries supplying blood to the heart), prinzmetal angina (a type of chest pain), angina pectoris (chest pain), heart attack, silent myocardial ischemia (when the heart temporarily doesn't receive enough blood and oxygen). Patients with a history of cerebrovascular (brain) syndromes (strokes, transient ischemic attacks (mini stroke)), peripheral vascular disease (blood circulation disorder), uncontrolled hypertension (high blood pressure) should not use Sumatriptan. The use of Sumatriptan within 24 hours of ergotamine derivatives (e.g., methysergide, dihydroergotamine) or within 24 hours of another drug from the same class, is not recommended. The concurrent administration or within 2 weeks of discontinuing an MAO inhibitors (antidepressants) is not recommended. Patients who suffer from Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome (a type of abnormal heart rhythm), arrhythmias (abnormal heart rhythms), or severe liver impairment should not use Sumatriptan. Taking Apo Sumatriptan (Sumatriptan) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Apo Sumatriptan (Sumatriptan) requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.Apo Sumatriptan (Sumatriptan)
