Description
Bacitracin (Bacitracin) is an antibiotic. It typically used in infants for the treatment of pneumonia (lung inflammation caused by bacterial or viral infection) and empyema (a condition in which fluid from infected tissue collects in a body cavity) caused by susceptible staphylococci (bacteria). It may also have other uses.

Bacitracin (Bacitracin) is typically used in two or three divided doses daily. The dose may change depending on the evolution of your disease. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Your doctor or nurse will administer Bacitracin (Bacitracin) to you in a hospital or clinical setting. WARNING: Bacitracin in parenteral (intramuscular injection) therapy may cause kidney failure due to tubular necrosis (a condition that causes the lack of oxygen and blood flow to the kidneys) and glomerular necrosis (inflammation of the tiny filters in the kidneys). Kidneys function should be carefully determined prior to and daily during therapy. The recommended daily dose should not be exceeded and fluid intake and urinary output should be maintained at proper levels to avoid kidney toxicity. If kidney toxicity occurs the drug should be discontinued. In addition to its desired action, Bacitracin (Bacitracin) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause skin rash, albuminuria (presence of albumin in the urine). It may cause nausea, vomiting, skin rashes. It may cause renal (kidney) failure, pain at injection site. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to bacitracin or any component of the formulation. Taking Bacitracin (Bacitracin) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Bacitracin (Bacitracin) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
