Description
Biltricide (Praziquantel) is an antiparasitic agent. It is typically used to treat a type of infection called schistosomiasis, an infection caused by parasitic worms. It may also have other uses.

Biltricide (Praziquantel)'s dosage depends on your condition, body weight, and type of parasite. It is usually given taken 3 times a day, for one day. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Swallow the tablets whole with a bit of liquid, either during or after meals. If left in the mouth, the tablets have a bitter taste that may cause gagging or vomiting. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. WARNING: Do not drive or operate machinery on the day of treatment and the day after treatment as Praziquantel may cause drowsiness or affect your awareness. Liver disease or reduced liver function may cause Biltricide (Praziquantel) to build up in the body, causing side effects, use with caution in patients with moderate to severe liver impairment. Praziquantel may cause irregular heartbeats. In addition to its desired action, Biltricide (Praziquantel) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause stomach pain, diarrhea, loss of appetite, nausea, or vomiting. It may cause dizziness, drowsiness, headache, or fever. It may cause muscle pain, tiredness, or weakness. It may cause irregular or rapid heartbeats, or seizures. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to praziquantel or any component of the formulation. Do not use in case of ocular cysticercosis (parasitic infection of the eye), or concomitant administration with strong cytochrome P450 (CYP450) inducers, such as rifampin (an antibiotic). Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. If you're planning a pregnancy, become pregnant, or are breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Biltricide (Praziquantel) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
