Description
Brevibloc (Esmolol) is an antiarrhythmic agent. It is typically used to manage rapid heart rates and high blood pressure during surgical operations when there is a risk for heart attacks. It is also used to rapidly control the heart rate in patients with rapid or irregular heart rhythms. It may also have other uses.

Brevibloc (Esmolol)'s dosage depends on the condition and body weight. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. It will be given to you by your doctor or nurse in a hospital setting. WARNING: Use with caution in patients with diabetes mellitus, heart failure, myasthenia gravis (weakness of the muscles). Use with caution in patients with renal (kidney) impairment. Bradycardia (slow heart rate) may be observed more frequently in elderly patients (>65 years of age), dosage reductions may be necessary. In addition to its desired action, Brevibloc (Esmolol) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause anxiety, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, headache, nervousness It may cause redness of the face and neck Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to esmolol or any component of the formulation, heart problems, pulmonary hypertension (type of high blood pressure that affects the arteries in your lungs) Taking Brevibloc (Esmolol) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Brevibloc (Esmolol) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
