Description
Brevicon 1/35 (Ethinyl Estradiol Norethindrone) is a combination birth control pill (oral contraceptive) that contains a progestin (norethindrone) and estrogen (ethinyl estradiol). It is typically used to prevent pregnancy. It may also have other uses.

Brevicon 1/35 (Ethinyl Estradiol Norethindrone) is typically used once daily. Take 1 tablet daily for 21 days, then take no pills for 7 days. After 7 days, start a new pack. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. Administer at the same time each day with or without food. It may be advisable to use a second method of birth control (e.g., latex condoms and spermicidal foam or gel) for the first 7 days of the first cycle of pill use. WARNING: The use of unopposed estrogen in women with an intact uterus (the womb) is associated with an increased risk of endometrial (the lining of the uterus, which is the womb) cancer. Estrogens with or without progestin should not be used to prevent heart disease. Use with caution in patients with a history of depression, discontinue if serious depression recurs. Use caution in patients with diabetes or pre diabetes, heart disease, renal (kidney) dysfunction. Any changes with lens tolerance or vision should be evaluated by an ophthalmologist. Not for use prior to menarche (occurrence of a first menstrual period). Combination oral contraceptives should not be used by women who are >35 years of age and smoke. Whenever possible, discontinue at least 4 weeks prior to and for 2 weeks following major surgery or other surgeries known to have an increased risk of thromboembolism (formation in a blood vessel of a clot that breaks loose and is carried by the bloodstream to plug another vessel) or during periods of prolonged immobilization. In addition to its desired action, Brevicon 1/35 (Ethinyl Estradiol Norethindrone) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause nausea, vomiting, headache, bloating, breast tenderness, swelling of the ankles/feet (fluid retention) It may cause weight change, vaginal bleeding between periods (spotting) or missed/irregular periods Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to ethinyl estradiol, norethindrone, or any component of the formulation, breast cancer, endometrial cancer, or other estrogen- or progestin-sensitive cancer (current or a history of), liver tumors or liver disease, pregnancy, undiagnosed abnormal uterine bleeding, concomitant use of hepatitis C (liver disease caused by a virus) drug combinations containing ombitasvir/paritaprevir/ritonavir, with or without dasabuvir. Use is also contraindicated in patients at high risk of arterial or venous thrombotic diseases (blood clot forming in a blood vessel), such as those with heart disease, patients >35 years of age with diabetes mellitus, diabetes mellitus with hypertension (increase blood pressure), diabetes mellitus for >20 years duration, uncontrolled hypertension (increased blood pressure), patients >35 years of age who smoke Taking Brevicon 1/35 (Ethinyl Estradiol Norethindrone) during pregnancy is contraindicated and harmful for the baby. Combination hormonal contraceptives are used to prevent pregnancy, treatment should be discontinued if pregnancy occurs. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Brevicon 1/35 (Ethinyl Estradiol Norethindrone) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
