Description

Byetta (Exenatide) is glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist. It is typically used to improve blood sugar levels by adults with type 2 diabetes (a disease that occurs when your blood glucose, also called blood sugar, is too high). It is also used for chronic weight management in addition to reduced calorie diet and increased physical activity in adults who are overweight and have weight-related health problems, or who are obese. It may also have other uses.

Additional information

Byetta (Exenatide) is typically injected twice daily, with or without food. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. 

WARNING: Not recommended to be used in patients with severe stomach and intestinal disease due to frequent adverse effects associated with use. Use is not recommended in patients with severe renal (kidney) impairment. 

In addition to its desired action, Byetta (Exenatide) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause indigestion, constipation, weight loss, headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea. It may cause injection site nodule, injection site reaction, hypoglycemia (decrease sugar levels in the blood).
It may cause a decreased appetite, dizziness. 

Contraindications: Prior serious hypersensitivity to exenatide or any component of the formulation, history of drug-induced immune-mediated thrombocytopenia (when drugs are the causes of a low platelet count).

Taking Byetta (Exenatide) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. 

A treatment with Byetta (Exenatide) requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.Byetta (Exenatide)
