Cantharone (Cantharidin ) is a topical wart treatment. It is typically used to treat common warts and molluscum contagiosum. It may also have other uses.

If you miss a follow-up appointment, contact your healthcare provider for guidance. WARNING: Cantharone (Cantharidin ) is a strong vesicant and should be used sparingly. It is for topical use only. Do not ingest or apply to the eyes, mouth, or mucous membranes. Life-threatening effects such as kidney failure, severe damage to the digestive tract, bleeding disorders, seizures, or muscle paralysis have been reported if taken by mouth. Patients should be advised not to touch or rub treated lesions, and to avoid oral contact with the medication. If accidental ingestion occurs, seek emergency medical attention immediately. Ocular toxicity may occur if the product contacts the eyes. Do not use near or on the eyes. In case of eye exposure, flush with water for at least 15 minutes and get medical help right away. In addition to its desired action, this medication may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause dryness and peeling of the skin. It may cause local pain. It may cause local irritation. It may cause blisters at the application site. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to Cantharone (Cantharidin) or any component of the formulation. Use of Cantharone (Cantharidin) is not recommended in individuals with diabetes or impaired peripheral circulation. Do not apply near the eyes, on the face, mucous membranes, or in the ano-genital, intertriginous (e.g., skin folds), or axillary (underarm) regions. Taking this medication during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with this medication requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.
