Description
Cetrotide (Cetrorelix) is a gonadotropin releasing hormone antagonist agent. It is typically used for the inhibition of premature luteinizing hormone (a hormone that helps control the menstrual cycle) surges in women undergoing controlled ovarian stimulation, to prevent premature ovulation. It may also have other uses.

Cetrotide (Cetrorelix) is typically taken once daily the morning or evening of stimulation day 5, or morning of stimulation day 6. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. Administer by subcutaneous injection (under the skin) following proper aseptic technique procedures. Injections should be to the lower abdomen, preferably around the navel (but staying at least 1 inch from the navel). The injection site should be rotated daily. WARNING: Hypersensitivity reactions, including severe anaphylactoid (a severe, potentially life-threatening allergic reaction) reactions, have been reported after initial dose and months after starting therapy, use with caution in patients with signs and symptoms of active allergic conditions or known history of allergic predisposition. In addition to its desired action, Cetrotide (Cetrorelix) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause headaches, nausea It may cause redness, swelling, bruising, and itching at the place of injection Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to cetrorelix, extrinsic peptide hormones, gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) or other GnRH analogs (similar agents), mannitol, or any component of the formulation, severe renal (kidney) impairment, pregnancy, breastfeeding. Taking Cetrotide (Cetrorelix) during pregnancy is contraindicated and harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.
