Description
Cimzia (Certolizumab) is an agent that help to stop inflammation. It is typically used to reduce pain and swelling due to certain inflammatory conditions (such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, plaque psoriasis). It may also have other uses.

Cimzia (Certolizumab)'s dosage depends on the condition being treated. Your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. After proper training in subcutaneous (under the skin) injection technique, a patient may self-inject with the CIMZIA if a physician determines that it is appropriate. CIMZIA is administered as a subcutaneous injection (under the skin) into the thigh, abdomen, or upper arm. Injection sites should be rotated and injections should not be given into areas where the skin is tender, bruised, red or hard. WARNING: Serious infections – do not start CIMZIA during an active infection. If an infection develops, monitor carefully, and stop CIMZIA if infection becomes serious. Heart failure, worsening or new onset may occur, use with caution in patients with cardiovascular (heart) problems. Hepatitis B virus (potentially life-threatening liver infection caused by the hepatitis B virus) reactivation – test for HBV infection before starting CIMZIA. Monitor HBV carriers during and several months after therapy. If reactivation occurs, stop CIMZIA and begin antiviral therapy. In addition to its desired action, Cimzia (Certolizumab) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause nausea, serious infection, headache. It may cause skin rash, injection site reaction, nasopharyngitis (an inflammatory attack of the pharynx and nasal cavities). It may cause cough, arthralgia (joint stiffness). Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to certolizumab pegol or any component of the formulation. Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant, or breastfeeding contact your family doctor. A treatment with Cimzia (Certolizumab) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
