Description
Ciprodex (Ciprofloxacin Dexamethasone) is a combination of an antibiotic and a corticosteroid agent. It is typically used for the treatment of acute otitis media (middle ear infections) in pediatric patients ≥6 months of age, and for the treatment of acute otitis externa (outer ear infections) in pediatric patients ≥6 months of age and adults due to susceptible isolates of some bacteria. It may also have other uses.

Ciprodex (Ciprofloxacin Dexamethasone) is typically instilled twice daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. For otic (ear) use only, not intended for injection or ophthalmic (eye) use. Prior to instillation, bottle should be warmed in hands for 1 to 2 minutes, dizziness can occur if a cold suspension is instilled. Shake suspension well immediately before using. Patient should lie with affected ear upward and remain in this position for 60 seconds following application. WARNING: prolonged use may result in fungal or bacterial superinfection (additional infection). If superinfection occurs, discontinue use and institute appropriate therapy. In addition to its desired action, Ciprodex (Ciprofloxacin Dexamethasone) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause changes in taste, ear debris, ear discomfort (feeling of fullness or plugging in the ear), ear itching, ear pain Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to ciprofloxacin, other fluoroquinolones (similar agents), dexamethasone, or any component of the formulation, viral infection of the external canal (passageway that leads from the outside of the head to the tympanic membrane, or eardrum membrane, of each ear), including herpes simplex (virus) infections, fungal otic infections. Taking Ciprodex (Ciprofloxacin Dexamethasone) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Ciprodex (Ciprofloxacin Dexamethasone) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
