Description
Climara (Estradiol) is a hormonal agent. It is typically used to treat certain symptoms of menopause such as hot flushes, and vaginal dryness, burning, and irritation. It may also have other uses.
Additional information
Climara (Estradiol) is typically worn continuously, and replaced every a specific time. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. Apply patch immediately after removing from protective pouch to lower abdomen or buttocks. Apply to clean, dry, healthy skin that is free of oil, powder, or lotion. Avoid waistline or other areas where tight clothing may rub the patch off, do not apply to breasts. After application, hold patch in place using palm of hand for 10 seconds. Rotate application sites allowing a 1-week interval between applications at a particular site. When replacing patch, re-apply to a new site. Remove patch slowly after use to avoid skin irritation. If any adhesive remains on the skin after removal, first allow skin to dry for 15 minutes, then gently rub area with an oil-based cream or lotion. WARNING: This medication should be used at the lowest dose that relieves your menopausal symptoms for the shortest time period possible. You should not use estrogens with or without progestins (other hormonal agents) to prevent heart disease, heart attacks, or strokes. Some women taking Climara (Estradiol) have reported increased blood pressure. Your doctor should monitor your blood pressure if you are using estrogen, especially if high doses are used. Estrogens can cause changes in blood glucose (blood sugar) control for people who have diabetes or have risk factors for developing diabetes. Use with caution. In addition to its desired action, Climara (Estradiol) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause acne, bloating, breast pain or tenderness It may cause changes in sex drive, breakthrough menstrual bleeding or spotting (usually a small amount of spotting at a time when you're not expecting your period, though some women have heavier bleeding) It may cause darkening of the skin around areas where the patch is applied or redness or irritation underneath or around the area of the skin on which the patch is applied It may cause migraine, headaches, moodswings, nausea, or weight changes Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to estradiol or any component of the formulation. Do not use if you: are breastfeeding, are or may be pregnant, have, have had, or may have breast cancer, have a blood clotting disorder, have a history of known or suspected estrogen-dependent tumours (e.g., endometrial cancer), have active phlebitis (inflamed varicose veins), have migraines, have endometrial hyperplasia (thickening of the inner lining of the uterus), have liver dysfunction or disease where liver function tests have not returned to normal, have or have ever had liver tumours, have or have had a stroke, heart attack, or other heart diseases, have or have had blood clots in the legs or lungs, have partial or complete loss of vision from eye disease related to circulation problems, have a metabolic condition known as porphyria, or have unusual vaginal bleeding that has not been checked by a doctor. Taking Climara (Estradiol) during pregnancy is contraindicated and harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Climara (Estradiol) requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.Climara (Estradiol)
