Description
Clozaril (Clozapine) is an antipsychotic agent. It is typically used for the management of psychotic disorders, such as schizophrenia (serious mental disorder in which people interpret reality abnormally). It may also have other uses.

Clozaril (Clozapine) is typically used once or twice daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. Administer without regard to food. Total daily dose may be divided into uneven doses with the larger dose administered at bedtime. WARNING: Elderly patients with dementia-related psychosis (when you experience reality in a different way to other people) treated with antipsychotics are at an increased risk of death compared to placebo. Fatalities due to myocarditis and cardiomyopathy (heart problems) have been reported. Upon suspicion of these reactions, discontinue clozapine and obtain a cardiac evaluation. In addition to its desired action, Clozaril (Clozapine) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause hypertension (high blood pressure), hypotension (low blood pressure), tachycardia (rapid heart rate) It may cause constipation, nausea, sialorrhea (drooling), vomiting, weight gain It may cause dizziness, drowsiness, insomnia, sedated state (calm), vertigo Contraindications: Serious hypersensitivity to clozapine or any component of the formulation Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Clozaril (Clozapine) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
