Description
Dificid (Fidaxomicin) is an antibiotic. It is typically used to treat diarrhea caused by a bacterial infection called Clostridium difficile. It may also have other uses.

Dificid (Fidaxomicin) is typically used twice daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. Take this drug with or without food. WARNING: Acute hypersensitivity reactions, including dyspnea (shortness of breath), rash, pruritus (severe itching of the skin), and angioedema (swelling) of the mouth, throat, and face have been reported with DIFICID. If a severe hypersensitivity reaction occurs, DIFICID should be discontinued and appropriate therapy should be instituted. Use with caution in patients with a history of macrolide (similar agents) allergy. In addition to its desired action, Dificid (Fidaxomicin) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause fever, constipation, decreased appetite, dizziness, skin rash. It may cause headaches, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain. It may cause gastrointestinal hemorrhage (a medical condition in which heavy bleeding occurs in the upper parts of the digestive tract: the esophagus (tube between the mouth and stomach), the stomach or the small intestine), anemia (a condition in which you lack enough healthy red blood cells to carry adequate oxygen to your body's tissues). Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to fidaxomicin or any component of the formulation. Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Dificid (Fidaxomicin) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
