Description

Emla Cream (Lidocaine / Prilocaine) is a combination of numbing agents (local anesthetics). It is typically used to numb the surface of the skin for a short time. It is put on the skin before certain medical procedures. It may also have other uses.

Additional information

Emla Cream (Lidocaine / Prilocaine) is typically applied as a thick layer to an intact skin and covered with an occlusive dressing 10, 30, or 60 minutes before your procedure. However, your pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often than prescribed.

WARNING: This medication helps to stop pain on the skin, however you may still have the feelings of pressure and touch. Analgesia can be expected to increase for up to 3 hours under occlusive dressing and persist for 1 to 2 hours after removal of the cream. Do not use on the following areas: cuts, grazes or wounds, where there is a skin rash or eczema, in or near the eyes, unless your doctor told you otherwise.

In addition to its desired action, Emla Cream (Lidocaine / Prilocaine) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause burning, itching, or redness at the application site.

Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to local anesthetics or any component of the formulation.

Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. If you're planning a pregnancy, become pregnant, or are breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.Emla Cream (Lidocaine / Prilocaine)
