Description
Erythro Base (Erythromycin) is an antibiotic. It is typically used to treat bacterial infections of the lungs, intestines, ears, skin, throat, and genitals. It may also have other uses.
Additional information
Erythro Base (Erythromycin) is typically given every 6 hours. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Erythromycin is best taken on an empty stomach (at least 1 hour before meals). Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. WARNING: Long-term use of Erythromycin may cause it not to work anymore in the future (resistance), more bacteria and fungi to grow (superinfection), and bacteria that do not die (resistance). Erythromycin only treats bacterial infections, not viral infections such as the common cold. Use with caution in patients with myasthenia gravis (a chronic autoimmune disorder in which antibodies destroy the communication between nerves and muscle, resulting in weakness of the skeletal muscles), and in liver impairment. In addition to its desired action, Erythro Base (Erythromycin) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause stomach cramping and discomfort, diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting. It may cause abnormal liver function tests. It may cause fungal infections of the skin, nails, mouth, vagina, or urinary tract. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to erythromycin, any antibiotic of the same class, or any component of the formulation. The concomitant use of Erythromycin with the following medications is contraindicated: astemizole, cisapride, dihydroergotamine, ergotamine, lovastatin, pimozide, simvastatin, or terfenadine. Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Erythro Base (Erythromycin) requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.Erythro Base (Erythromycin)
