Description
Esbriet (Pirfenidone) is an anti-inflammatory / anti-fibrotic agent. It is typically used to treat adults with idiopathic (unknown) pulmonary fibrosis (a condition in which the lungs become thickened, stiff, or scarred over a long period of time). It may also have other uses.

Esbriet (Pirfenidone) is typically used three times daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. Administer this drug with food at the same time each day. WARNING: Use with caution in patients with mild to moderate liver impairment. Use with caution in patients with kidney impairment. In addition to its desired action, Esbriet (Pirfenidone) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause fatigue, headache, dizziness. It may cause skin rash, nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain. It may cause upper respiratory tract infections, sleep disorders, weight loss. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to pirfenidone or any component of the formulation, concomitant use of fluvoxamine, severe hepatic (liver) impairment or end-stage liver disease, severe renal (kidney) impairment or end-stage renal disease (ESRD) requiring dialysis (a treatment for kidney failure). Taking Esbriet (Pirfenidone) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Esbriet (Pirfenidone) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
