Additional information
Etibi (Ethambutol) is typically given once daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Ethambutol can be taken with or without food. It should be taken as a single daily dose, at the same time each day, and preferably in the morning. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often than prescribed. Do not crush, break, or chew. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. WARNING: Ethambutol may cause eye problems associated with inflammation of the optic nerve such as decreased vision and loss of red-green color vision. Normal vision is usually restored within weeks or months of stopping the medication. Some people taking ethambutol have experienced an increase of uric acid in the blood, causing gout. Symptoms of an acute gout attack include sudden pain, swelling, and stiffness in the affected joint, often the big toe. Use with caution in patients with kidney or liver impairment. In addition to its desired action, Etibi (Ethambutol) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause dizziness, headache, or drowsiness. It may cause loss of appetite, nausea, stomach pain or discomfort, or vomiting. It may cause vision problems in either eye (e.g., decreased vision, loss of red-green color vision). Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to ethambutol or any component of the formulation. Do not use in case of optic neuritis (inflamed optic nerve), or in young children, unconscious patients, or any other patient who may be unable to discern and report visual changes. Taking Etibi (Ethambutol) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Etibi (Ethambutol) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
