Description

Finacea (Azelaic acid) is an anti-rosacea agent. It is typically used to treat the redness, bumps (papules), and pimples (pustules) that occur as symptoms of rosacea. Rosacea is a common skin condition that causes redness and visible blood vessels in the face. It may also have other uses.

Additional information

Finacea (Azelaic acid) is typically applied as a thin layer of gel to the affected area and gently massage it into the skin twice a day, in the morning and evening. Approximately one finger-tip length (about 2.5 cm) of gel should be enough to cover the entire area. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Before using the gel, wash the affected area with a soapless cleanser or a very mild soap. Pat the skin dry with a soft towel. After applying the gel, wash your hands. Do not cover the affected area. Leave the skin exposed to the air. If you use cosmetics, you may apply them once This medication has dried. Avoid contact with the eyes. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist.

WARNING: To get the best effect from Finacea (Azelaic acid), it must be used regularly. It may take 4 to 8 weeks to see a significant effect. Some foods, such as spicy foods, hot drinks and foods, and alcohol may cause symptoms of rosacea to worsen. It is advisable to avoid these triggers when you have rosacea. Ingredients in azelaic acid gel may cause irritation to the skin and soft tissues. Avoid contact with the eyes and mouth when using Finacea (Azelaic acid).

In addition to its desired action, Finacea (Azelaic acid) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause burning, stinging, tingling, or itching at the application area.
It may cause dry skin, reddening skin, or scaling skin.
It may cause changes in skin color, or hair follicle infections.

Contraindications: Do not use Finacea (Azelaic acid) if you are allergic to azelaic acid, propylene glycol, or any ingredients of the medication.

Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.
