Fluanxol (Flupentixol)

Additional information

Fluanxol (Flupentixol)'s dosage depends on the condition being treated. Your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. Take this drug with or without food.

WARNING: Flupentixol is not indicated in patients with dementia (dementia is a syndrome associated with an ongoing decline of brain functioning). Use with caution in patient with cardiovascular (heart) disease. Use with caution in patient at risk of seizures (a sudden, uncontrolled electrical disturbance in the brain). Use with caution in patients who are known or are suspected to have glaucoma (a disease of the eye marked by increased pressure within the eyeball). Use with caution in patients with caution in patients with Parkinsonism (a brain disorder that leads to shaking, stiffness, and difficulty with walking, balance, and coordination). 

In addition to its desired action, Fluanxol (Flupentixol) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause changes in menstrual periods, constipation, decreased sexual ability.
It may cause dizziness, dry mouth, fatigue, increased production of saliva, increased sweating.
It may cause urination disorder, skin rash, weight changes.

Contraindications: If you are allergic to flupenthixol or any ingredients of Fluanxol (Flupentixol), if you are allergic to other thioxanthines (e.g., thiothixine), if you are intoxicated (physically or mentally impairment due a chemical substance) with alcohol or other medications (such as hypnotics, other opioids like codeine or morphine, or psychotropic medications for mental health conditions), if you have liver disease, if you have serious heart disease, brain disease, or kidney disease, concomitant use with large doses of hypnotics (a sleep-inducing agents).

Taking Fluanxol (Flupentixol) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.
