Description
Fragmin (Dalteparin) is blood thinner. It is typically used to prevent blood clots (venous thromboembolism) from forming before and after an operation or if you are bedridden due to illness and to prevent their recurrence. It may also have other uses.

Fragmin (Dalteparin)'s dosage depends on the condition being treated. Your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. FRAGMIN is administered as an injection under the surface of the skin (subcutaneous). Your medicine will usually be administered by a doctor or nurse or you may be shown how to give the injection yourself at home. It is usually injected into a skin fold in your abdomen (stomach), or the outer aspects of your thigh. It should not be injected into your muscles. WARNING: Use with caution in patients with a history of gastrointestinal ulcer (a sore on the lining of your stomach, small intestine or esophagus). Use with caution in patients with hepatic (liver) problems. Use with caution in patients with renal (kidney) problems. Use with caution in elderly. Use caution in conditions with increased risk of hemorrhage (bleeding). In addition to its desired action, Fragmin (Dalteparin) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause thrombocytopenia (a condition in which you have a low blood platelet count that help blood clot). It may cause hemorrhage (bleeding), increased liver function. It may cause pain at injection site. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to dalteparin, heparin, pork products, or any component of the formulation, history of heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (Low blood platelet count as a result of the medication heparin), active major bleeding, patients undergoing epidural anesthesia (temporary loss of sensation produced by the injection of an anesthetic into the spinal cord) Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant, or breastfeeding contact your family doctor. A treatment with Fragmin (Dalteparin) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
