Description
Ibavyr (Ribavirin) is an antiviral agent. It is typically used in combination with other medications to treat chronic (lasting) hepatitis C (liver disease caused by a virus) by adults. It may also have other uses.
Additional information
Ibavyr (Ribavirin) is typically used twice daily (morning and evening). However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. Take this drug with food. WARNING: Ribavirin monotherapy is not effective for chronic hepatitis C (liver disease caused by a virus) infection and should not be used alone for hepatitis C. Use with caution in patients with renal (kidney) impairment, dosage adjustment or discontinuation may be required. Use with caution in elderly. Use with caution in patients with cardiac (heart) problems. In addition to its desired action, Ibavyr (Ribavirin) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause tiredness, low red blood cells (anemia), headache, difficulty sleeping, itching, nausea. It may cause alopecia (hair loss), skin rash, viral infection, shortness of breath. Contraindications: If you are allergic to ribavirin or any ingredients of Ibavyr (Ribavirin), if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, if you have a female partner who is pregnant or planning to become pregnant, if you have a blood disorder (e.g., thalassemia or sickle-cell anemia), if you are taking the medication didanosine (antiviral). Taking Ibavyr (Ribavirin) during pregnancy is contraindicated and harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Ibavyr (Ribavirin) requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.Ibavyr (Ribavirin)
