Description

Invega ER (Paliperidone extended-release) is an antipsychotic agent. It is typically used to treat schizophrenia (a serious mental disorder in which people interpret reality abnormally). It may also have others uses.

Additional information

Invega ER (Paliperidone extended-release) is typically used once daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. Administer this drug in the morning with or without food. Tablet should be swallowed whole and should not be chewed, divided, or crushed.
WARNING: This drug may cause central nervous system depression, which may impair physical or mental abilities, patients must be cautioned about performing tasks that require mental alertness. Use with caution in patients with diabetes (high blood sugar level). Use with caution in patients with kidney diseases. Use with caution in patients at risk of seizures (a sudden, uncontrolled electrical disturbance in the brain). Use with caution in patients with a pre-existing abnormal lipid profile (a test of how much healthy/unhealthy fats do you have circulating in your blood). Use with caution in patients with known cardiovascular (heart) or cerebrovascular (brain) disease and patients predisposed to hypotension (low blood pressure).
In addition to its desired action, Invega ER (Paliperidone extended-release) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause tachycardia (a heart rate that’s too fast), decreased HDL cholesterol (the "good" cholesterol), hyperglycemia (high blood sugar level).
It may cause headaches, increased appetite, vomiting, weight gain, tardive dyskinesia (involuntary movements of the face and jaw).
It may cause drowsiness, headache, cough, upper respiratory tract infections. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to paliperidone, risperidone, or any component of the formulation.
Taking Invega ER (Paliperidone extended-release) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Invega ER (Paliperidone extended-release) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
