Description
Isopto Carpine (Pilocarpine) is an ophthalmic agent. It is typically used to lower the pressure in the eye
(intraocular pressure). It may also have other uses.
Additional information
Isopto Carpine (Pilocarpine) is usually given as 2 drops in the affected eye(s) 3 or 4 times a day. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. WARNING: Use caution when driving at night and other hazardous occupations in poor illumination, may cause decreased vision, especially at night or with reduced lighting. In addition, drugs like Pilocarpine may also cause accommodative spasm. Use is not recommended when iritis (the inflammation of the colored part of your eye (iris)) is present. Avoid such drugs in acute inflammatory diseases of the anterior chamber. Use with caution in susceptible patients and those with pre-existing retinal disease. Use with caution in pediatric patients with primary congenital glaucoma (common eye condition where the optic nerve, which connects the eye to the brain, becomes damaged). In addition to its desired action, Isopto Carpine (Pilocarpine) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause hypertension (high blood pressure) and tachycardia (increase heartbeat). It may cause diarrhea, nausea, salivation and vomiting. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity or severe allergic reaction to pilocarpine or any component of the formulation, conditions where pupillary constriction is undesirable. Taking Isopto Carpine (Pilocarpine) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Isopto Carpine (Pilocarpine) requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.Isopto Carpine (Pilocarpine)
