Description
Jamp Lactulose (Lactulose) is a laxative agent. It is typically used for the treatment of chronic constipation by adults and elderly patients and as an adjunct to protein restriction and supportive therapy for the prevention and treatment of portal-systemic encephalopathy (a neuropsychiatric disorder that occurs secondary to chronic liver disease). It may also have other uses.

Jamp Lactulose (Lactulose) is typically used as follows: For the treatment of chronic constipation in adults, the usual initial dosage of lactulose is 10g to 20 g (15 mL to 30 mL) daily. For the prevention and treatment of encephalopathy in adults, the usual initial oral dosage of lactulose is 20 g to 30 g (30 mL to 45 mL of lactulose) 3 or 4 times daily, for the management of acute episodes of encephalopathy in adults, 20 g to 30 g (30 mL to 45 mL) may be given orally at 1 to 2 hour intervals to induce rapid laxation. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. The sweet taste of lactulose, which may be unpleasant to some patients, can be minimized by diluting the solution with water, fruit juice, or milk, or administering it in food such as desserts. WARNING: People with diabetes may experience loss of glucose control when they used lactulose. If you have diabetes, discuss with your doctor how Jamp Lactulose (Lactulose) may affect your medical condition. This medication should not be used in the presence of abdominal pain, nausea, fever, or vomiting. Infants and children receiving Jamp Lactulose (Lactulose) are at risk of dehydration. People over the age of 65 years maybe more at risk of dehydration and changes in electrolytes from Jamp Lactulose (Lactulose). In addition to its desired action, Jamp Lactulose (Lactulose) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause abdominal cramps, diarrhea, flatulence (gas), nausea Contraindications: Do not take it if you are allergic to lactulose or any ingredients of the medication or require a low galactose (sugar) diet Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women.
