Additional information
Lanvis (Thioguanine) is typically given once a day. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. It is taken orally, with or without food. Drink plenty of fluids while taking Lanvis (Thioguanine) unless otherwise directed by your doctor, to help you pass more fluid and protect your kidneys. If you need to take half a tablet, protect your hands. Do not breathe in any powder from halved tablets. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. WARNING: Thioguanine is potentially carcinogenic (causing cancer). It may cause low levels of red blood cells (anemia) and reduce the number of platelet cells in the blood (thrombocytopenia), causing your blood to clot more rapidly. This medication may also reduce the number of white blood cells (leukopenia) that fight infection in the body. Thioguanine can reduce liver function and can cause liver damage, it is therefore better to avoid drinking alcohol while taking this drug. It may cause tumor lysis syndrome (TLS), a condition that occurs when a large number of cancer cells die within a short period, releasing their contents in to the blood. Avoid vaccination with live vaccines during treatment. In addition to its desired action, Lanvis (Thioguanine) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause diarrhea, loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting. It may cause skin rash and itching. It may cause joint pain, sores in the mouth or on the lips, or swelling of the feet or lower legs. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to thioguanine or any ingredients of this formulation. Do not use in case of previous resistance to the effects of thioguanine or mercaptopurine. Taking Lanvis (Thioguanine) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Lanvis (Thioguanine) requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.Lanvis (Thioguanine)
