Description
Loniten (Minoxidil) is a vasodilator agent. It is typically used to control severely elevated blood pressure that is not manageable with a water pill and two other blood pressure medications. It may also have other uses.

Loniten (Minoxidil) is typically given twice daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. It may be taken with food or on an empty stomach. Swallow This medication whole with water or other liquids. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. Do not crush, break, or chew. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. WARNING: Minoxidil may affect the mental or physical abilities needed to drive or operate machinery. People with certain types of heart disease may be at an increased risk of adverse reactions to minoxidil. This medication may increase oxygen demand and exacerbate chest pain. Use with caution in patients with kidney impairment, and in the elderly. Minoxidil is usually taken along with two other medications to help lower blood pressure and prevent side effects of minoxidil. In addition to its desired action, Loniten (Minoxidil) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause increase in hair growth, usually on the face, arms, and back. It may cause bloating, rapid weight gain of more than 2 kg, and skin rash and itching. It may cause difficulty breathing, especially when lying down, dizziness or lightheadedness, and shortness of breath. It may cause fast or irregular heartbeat, and swelling of the feet or lower legs. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to minoxidil or any component of the formulation. Do not use in case of pheochromocytoma (a tumor of an adrenal gland found on top of the kidneys). Taking Loniten (Minoxidil) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Loniten (Minoxidil) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
