Description

Lucentis (Ranibizumab) is an ophthalmic (for the eyes) agent. It is typically used to treat certain serious eye conditions such as age-related macular degeneration (a disease that affects a person’s central vision), macular edema (the buildup of fluid in the macula, an area in the center of the retina), diabetic retinopathy (a diabetes complication that affects eyes). It may also have other uses.

Additional information

Lucentis (Ranibizumab)'s dosage depends on condition. Your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. It is given as a shot into the eye. Your doctor or nurse will administer Lucentis (Ranibizumab) to you in a hospital or clinical setting.
WARNING: Treatment with ranibizumab should be stopped for people who develop clots that block their blood vessels. Use caution in patients with known risk factors of thromboembolic events (formation of blood clot). In addition to its desired action, Lucentis (Ranibizumab) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause arterial thromboembolism (clotting of blood within an artery or vein so that the blood flow is reduced or impeded), conjunctival hemorrhage (occurs when a tiny blood vessel breaks just underneath the clear surface of your eye).
It may cause headaches, nausea, flu-like symptoms, blurred vision or vision changes, eye pain, increased intraocular pressure (the condition where the pressure inside the eye is higher than normal).
Contraindications: if you are allergic to ranibizumab or to any of the ingredients of the medication, if you have inflammation (pain or redness) inside the eye, if you have or may have an infection in or around the eye.
Taking Lucentis (Ranibizumab) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.
A treatment with Lucentis (Ranibizumab) requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.Lucentis (Ranibizumab)
