Description

Lutrepulse (Gonadorelin) is an ovulatory agent. It is typically used to induce ovulation in women with primary hypothalamic amenorrhea. These women do not have a menstrual period because they are not producing enough Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone (GnRH), a hormone released by an area of the brain called the hypothalamus. It may also have other uses.

Additional information

Lutrepulse (Gonadorelin) is typically given as 5 mcg every 90 minutes. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Lutrepulse can be injected under the skin (subcutaneous) or into a vein (intravenous) by an infusion pump. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist.

WARNING: This medication may increase the chances of having multiple births (i.e., twins). Treatment can cause a condition called ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS). With OHSS, too many follicles (a small sac of fluid in the ovaries that contains a developing egg) grow and cause abdominal or pelvic discomfort or pain, nausea, vomiting, and weight gain. Ovarian cancer has been reported in a very small number of infertile women, a causal relationship has not been established.

In addition to its desired action, Lutrepulse (Gonadorelin) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause headaches, nausea, or abdominal pain.
It may cause pain or irritation at the injection site.
It may cause increased menstrual bleeding.

Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to gonadorelin or any component of the formulation. Women with any condition (e.g., pituitary prolactinoma (non-cancerous tumor of the pituitary gland)) that could be exacerbated by pregnancy and patients who have ovarian cysts (fluid-filled sacs on the ovaries), or any condition (e.g., hormone-dependent tumor) that may be worsened by reproductive hormones should not use Lutrepulse (Gonadorelin).

Taking Lutrepulse (Gonadorelin) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Pregnant women should not use this product.

A treatment with Lutrepulse (Gonadorelin) requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Be sure to see your doctor for all regularly scheduled appointments.Lutrepulse (Gonadorelin)
