Description
Malarone Pediatric (Atovaquone Proguanil) is an antiprotozoal agent. It is typically used to treat and prevent malaria by killing the parasite that causes malaria. The parasite, called Plasmodium falciparum, is spread to humans through the bites of infected mosquitoes. It may also have other uses.

Malarone Pediatric (Atovaquone Proguanil)'s dosage depends on the body weight. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. Administer with food or milk-based drink at the same time each day. If patient vomits within 1 hour of administration, repeat the dose. For patients who have difficulty swallowing tablets, tablets may be crushed and mixed with condensed milk just prior to administration. WARNING: Absorption of atovaquone may be decreased in patients who have diarrhea or vomiting, monitor closely and consider use of an antiemetic (a medication to stop vomiting). If severe, consider use of an alternative antimalarial. This medication is not recommended for malaria prophylaxis in children weighing less than 11 kg. In addition to its desired action, Malarone Pediatric (Atovaquone Proguanil) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause abdominal pain, back pain, constipation It may cause coughing, diarrhea, difficulty sleeping It may cause dizziness, hair loss, headache, heartburn Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to atovaquone, proguanil, or any component of the formulation, prophylactic (prevention) used in severe renal (kidney) impairment A treatment with Malarone Pediatric (Atovaquone Proguanil) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
