Description

Maxidex (Dexamethasone) is an anti-inflammatory drug from the cortisone family (corticosteroid). It is typically used for the treatment of eye inflammation and pain following eye surgery. It may also have other uses.

Additional information

Maxidex (Dexamethasone) is typically used 3 to 4 times daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. To prevent contamination of the eye ointment, avoid touching the ointment tip to the eye, skin, or any other surface.

WARNING: This medication may cause a temporary blurring of vision. Do not drive or operate machinery until your vision has cleared. Prolonged use of Maxidex (Dexamethasone) can cause eye problems such as glaucoma (increased eye pressure), damage to the optic nerve, vision problems, cataracts (when your eye's natural lens becomes cloudy), and perforation of the cornea (eye structure). Prolonged use may also increase the risk of fungal and bacterial eye infections. If This medication is typically used for more than 10 days, your doctor will check your eyes routinely.

In addition to its desired action, Maxidex (Dexamethasone) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause bad taste in mouth, dry eyes, increased tearing
It may cause eye irritation, light sensitivity, temporary blurred vision

Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to dexamethasone or any component of the formulation, any eye infection (bacterial, viral, fungal)

Taking Maxidex (Dexamethasone) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method.
Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor.
