Description
Maxitrol (Dexamethasone Neomycin Polymyxin B) is an antibiotic / corticosteroid agent. It is typically used to treat conditions involving swelling (inflammation) of the eyes and to treat or prevent bacterial eye infections. It may also have other uses.

Maxitrol (Dexamethasone Neomycin Polymyxin B) is typically used three to four times daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. Apply into pocket between eyeball and lower lid, patient should look downward before closing eye. WARNING: Use with caution in patients with glaucoma (an abnormally high pressure in your eye). In addition to its desired action, Maxitrol (Dexamethasone Neomycin Polymyxin B) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause blurred vision, eye pain, tearing. It may cause headaches, increased eye pressure, sensitivity to light. Contraindications: If you are allergic to neomycin sulfate, dexamethasone, polymyxin B sulfate, or to any of the ingredients of the medication, if you have acute herpes simplex (viral infection), if you have tuberculosis of the eye (bacterial infection), if you have varicella (infection caused by the varicella-zoster virus), if you have other viral or fungal diseases of the eye. Taking Maxitrol (Dexamethasone Neomycin Polymyxin B) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Maxitrol (Dexamethasone Neomycin Polymyxin B) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
