Description

Mefenamic Acid (Mefenamic acid) is an anti-inflammatory/analgesic agent. It is typically used for short-term treatment of mild to moderate pain from various conditions. It is also used to decrease pain and blood loss from menstrual periods. It may also have other uses.

Additional information

Mefenamic Acid (Mefenamic acid) is typically used every 6 hours as needed. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. Administer with food or milk. WARNING: Patients must be cautioned about performing tasks which require mental alertness (e.g., operating machinery or driving). Use with caution in patients with liver impairment, dosage adjustments may be necessary. Avoid use in patients with pre-existing renal (kidney) disease and in patients with advanced renal (kidney) disease, monitor renal (kidney) function closely if therapy must be initiated.
In addition to its desired action, Mefenamic Acid (Mefenamic acid) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, heartburn, constipation, diarrhea, rash, dizziness, headache, nervousness
It may cause skin rash, fluid retention, abdominal cramps, abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea It may cause stomach or intestine bleeding or perforation, liver damage Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to mefenamic acid, or any component of the formulation, use in the setting of coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery (surgical procedure used to treat coronary heart disease), history of asthma (a respiratory condition marked by attacks of spasm in the bronchi of the lungs, causing difficulty in breathing), urticaria (skin condition characterized by the formation of itchy red or whitish patches), or allergic-type reactions after taking aspirin or other similar agents to mefenamic acid.
Taking Mefenamic Acid (Mefenamic acid) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant, contact your family doctor.
