Description
Megestrol (Megestrol) is an anticancer agent. It is typically used for adjunctive or palliative treatment of cancers of the breast and endometrium (lining of the uterus) and for palliative treatment of prostate cancer. It may also have other uses.

Megestrol (Megestrol)'s dosage depends on the condition (usual range: 40 mg - 320 mg). However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. Administer without regard to food. WARNING: Use megestrol acetate with caution in patients with a history of thrombophlebitis (inflammation of the wall of a vein with associated thrombosis, often occurring in the legs during pregnancy). Close, customary surveillance is indicated as in any patient being treated for recurrent or metastatic (spread) cancer. Patients receiving large doses of progestational agents such as megestrol acetate continuously for prolonged periods should be observed closely for possible adrenal cortical suppression (decreased cortisol secretion) In addition to its desired action, Megestrol (Megestrol) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause weight gain It may cause hypertension (high blood pressure), chest pain, edema (swelling), palpitations, cardiac (heart) failure It may cause headaches, pain, insomnia, confusion, convulsions (involuntary contractions of the muscles) Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to megestrol or any component of the formulation Taking Megestrol (Megestrol) during pregnancy is contraindicated and harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Megestrol (Megestrol) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
