Description
Mepron (Atovaquone) is an antiviral agent. It is typically used for the prevention and treatment of PCP (a serious fungal infection) by adults and adolescents 13 years and older who are intolerant to trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (an antibiotic). It may also have other uses.

Mepron (Atovaquone) is typically used once or twice daily. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist. Shake the bottle gently but thoroughly before use. Measure the dose out carefully with a medication spoon/cup. Do not use a household spoon. To treat PCP, take Mepron (Atovaquone) by mouth with food. WARNING: Absorption may be decreased in patients who have diarrhea or vomiting, monitor closely and consider use of an antiemetic (a medication to stop vomiting). If severe, consider use of an alternative drug. In addition to its desired action, Mepron (Atovaquone) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause stomach upset/pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, loss of appetite It may cause headaches, dizziness, trouble sleeping, fever, sweating, or a strange taste in the mouth Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to atovaquone or any component of the formulation Taking Mepron (Atovaquone) during pregnancy may be harmful for the baby. Women of childbearing potential should use an effective contraceptive method. Pregnant women should not use this product. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Mepron (Atovaquone) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
