Description
Methyldopa (Methyldopa) is an antihypertensive agent. It is typically used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes (when the blood supply to part of your brain is interrupted or reduced), heart attacks, and kidney problems. It may also have other uses.

Methyldopa (Methyldopa) is typically used two to three times per day. However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you miss a dose, contact your pharmacist. Take the drug with or without food. WARNING: Use with caution in patients with history of liver disease or impairment. Not recommended in patients with tumor in adrenal glands (gland on top of the kidney). Use with caution in patients with renal (kidney) impairment In addition to its desired action, Methyldopa (Methyldopa) may cause some side effects, notably: It may cause drowsiness, headache, lack of energy, weakness, dizziness It may cause lightheadedness, fainting, nausea or vomiting It may cause swelling of your hands or feet, weight gain Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to methyldopa or any component of the formulation, active liver disease, liver disorders previously associated with use of methyldopa, concurrent use of phenelzine, selegiline and similar agents. Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. If you're planning a pregnancy or become pregnant or breastfeeding, contact your family doctor. A treatment with Methyldopa (Methyldopa) requires regular monitoring by a doctor.
