Description

Mezera (Mesalazine) is an anti-inflammatory agent. It is typically used for the treatment and maintenance of remission of mildly to moderately active ulcerative colitis (an inflammation in your digestive tract) by adults. It may also have other uses.

Additional information

Mezera (Mesalazine) is typically given as 2 sprays once a day at bedtime. If you have difficulty retaining this amount of foam, it may also be used in two separate doses: one at bedtime and the other during the night or early in the morning (after excreting the first dose). However, your doctor or pharmacist may have suggested a different schedule that is more appropriate for you. Place your index finger on the top of pump dome. Turn the can upside down. The spray can will only work when held with the pump dome pointing down. Insert the applicator into your rectum as far as possible. The best way to do this is to place one foot on a chair or stool. Push down the pump dome fully once. Slowly release it. Wait 10-15 seconds for the foam to be delivered. For the second spray, push the
dome again and release slowly. Wait a further 10-15 seconds. Try not to empty your bowels until the next morning. Important: Follow the instructions on the label. Do not use more of this product, or more often, than prescribed. If you forget a dose, contact your pharmacist.

WARNING: Use with caution in patients predisposed to cardiac (heart) allergic reactions. Monitor for signs and symptoms of hypersensitivity (allergy), discontinue treatment for mesalamine-induced hypersensitivity (allergy reactions). Use with caution in patients with pre-existing skin conditions, avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight and ultraviolet light. Liver failure has been reported, kidney impairment has been reported. Good hydration is recommended. Use with caution in the elderly patients >65 years of age because it may lead to blood cell disturbances. Use with caution in patients with kidney and liver impairment. These events may occur at anytime during therapy and without warning.

In addition to its desired action, Mezera (Mesalazine) may cause some side effects, notably:
It may cause stomach pain or cramps, gas, nausea, or vomiting.
It may cause increased urge to go to the bathroom, irritation of the rectal (the last several inches of the large intestine closest to the anus) area, or diarrhea.
It may cause back pain, blood pressure changes, fatigue, or tiredness.
It may cause acne, hair loss, or headache.

Contraindications: Hypersensitivity (severe allergic reactions) to mesalamine, aminosalicylates, salicylates (such as aspirin), or any component of the formulation, severe kidney and liver impairment.
